PUBLIC MEETING

Dear Resident,

As you will probably be aware, North Somerset Council is currently carrying out what is known as a ‘Community Governance Review’ in this area. The possible effect of this review for you is that your property may transfer from the Parish in which it is currently located into an adjoining Parish Council area. Banwell, Hutton and Locking Parish Councils would like to invite you to a meet and greet session to find out more about this review. It takes place on –

Thursday, 7th January at 7.30 pm at the Children's Centre, Banwell

(located at the bottom of West Street car park)

This is your opportunity to question each of the Parish Councils about being in that Parish, or just let us know your views.  Come along for tea/coffee and a chat.

Banwell Library Public Meeting – Wednesday 6th January

You will have read in the papers of North Somerset Council’s intention to close Banwell Library in 2010 for financial reasons. The Parish Council is extremely worried about this reduction in an essential local service. We have been discussing with Council officers and the local District Councillors ways of ensuring that an alternative library provision is put in place so that Banwell residents still have access to the services currently provided by the library.

So that local people have the opportunity to hear first hand what North Somerset’s current proposals are for the library service, the Parish Council is holding a

Public Meeting on Wednesday, 6th January, 2010 at 7.30 pm in the Children’s Centre (located at the back of the car park in West Street).

So come along and express your views on your local library service.

The Parish Council briefing held on the 22 Oct 09 in the Methodist Hall was part of a community consultation. The project is to either modify the existing power network or provide a replacement to provide a suitable power carrier for the new generation power station at Hinckley Point which would be two 1800MW European Pressurised Water Reactors. (As of yet do not have planning permission)

The options of underwater have been dismissed due to cost and the option of underground has been again dismissed due to cost except on certain areas which require further investigation. This has left only an overhead option with 2 route choices.

During the past few months there has been a lot of unrest with the behaviour of some members of the community. As a parish Council we want to be proactive in addressing all concerns of the Parish before there is an unnecessary incident.

3.      Play Rangers

4.      District Councillors

12.  Social Services

13.  Community Safety Drug Team

14.  Highways and Planning

15.  Education and Welfare

16.  Vicar of St Andrews Banwell.

We hope all invited would be able to speak for 3 – 5 minutes on how they can assist in moving forward and the outcome of the meeting will produce a developed plan which all members of the community will be able to see adopted and produce measurable results.

All Parishioners and Local Businesses will be invited to attend then at the end of the session the floor will be open to ask questions to a body on the way forward and how it will affect them.

BANWELL IN BLOOM

When many villages were deciding how to mark the Jubilee Celebrations, a few like minded people of Banwell agreed to do something to enhance the village environment. They realised they could do nothing about the horrendous traffic problems associated with the village but there were other things they could do to improve the appearance. Thus - "Banwell in Bloom" was conceived. As a result of plant sales, various other fund raising activities and a grant from the Parish Council the village now boasts a delightful assortment of planted tubs and an ever growing army of volunteers prepared to tend them.

The project started at the Car Park in the centre of the village and over the years has branched out to the far corners of the community. To satisfy Health & Safety requirements a crop of yellow safety jackets have appeared on the backs of the volunteers.  Arrangements are underway for the coming season when Banwell will continue to bloom.

E MAIL CONFIRMING NO CHARGES FOR BANWELL CAR PARKS

I have just returned from Holiday and heard that there may be some confusion regarding North Somerset Council’s West Street car park in Banwell

There are no plans to charge in this car park now or in the future as it is too small to be cost effective and there would be no other benefit

The site has been part of the Parking Order for a couple of years so that we can manage it more effectively e.g. encouraging safer parking within lines, discouraging anti social behaviour and other improper uses of a car park. So, for the last couple of years and in the future if we catch someone acting against the Order they may be subject to a fine but that would be the only occasion they would be charged

We advertise the Parking Order every year as part of the process, which is why you have seen signs on the site and in papers but please be reassured we do not plan to make any parking changes in this site

Please contact me with any further queries

Thank you
